Overview

The Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) was a government initiative designed to help eligible Canadian businesses and non-profit organizations recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the hiring of new employees or increasing the hours of existing staff. This program aimed to facilitate economic recovery by encouraging growth and job creation across various sectors.

Understanding the CRHP’s criteria and benefits is crucial for businesses that participated or are interested in similar future programs, as it provided significant wage subsidies to offset operational costs during a challenging period.

  • Purpose: The CRHP was established to help businesses and non-profits rehire workers, increase staff hours, or hire new employees, thereby stimulating economic recovery and growth by supporting employment.
  • Eligibility: To qualify, organizations needed to demonstrate a revenue decline and meet specific criteria related to their payroll and business activities, ensuring the subsidy reached those most affected by the pandemic.
  • Benefits: Eligible employers received a wage subsidy to cover a portion of their payroll expenses, which helped reduce financial burdens and allowed for business expansion during the recovery phase.

KWB Explains the Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP)

Employers who continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible to apply for one of two Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) subsidies to cover part of their employee’s wages.

Along with the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program, the CRA has launched a new Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP), including an online calculator to help you prepare your application. The calculator integrates the two programs to show you which program will offer you the most support based on your unique situation.

We recommend that eligible employers and business owners use our knowledgeable professionals to apply for the CRHP any time after July 7. You could also try to complete the application yourself through your My Business Account. Payments will be issued by the CRA beginning the week of July 12.
