Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has announced that they are closing their cash receipts window effective September 30, 2013.

In Edmonton, this is a desk at Canada Place where you can take your payments, drop them off and receive a receipt showing that the payment was made. KWB has been using this service on your behalf so that we could track any payments that you left with us.  That way we could ensure that they were received by CRA. Now that this option is closing we will no longer be able to receive confirmation of payments delivered to Canada place.

We will still be taking your payments to both CRA and Alberta Treasury on your behalf if left with us, we just won’t be able to verify and prove that payment was received by CRA.

Accordingly it is vital that you let us know if you receive any correspondence from CRA that appears to differ from what you would expect. If caught early enough any errors can be dealt with promptly and efficiently. But if we aren’t informed of possible errors until your year-end work is done it can be very difficult trying to sort things out with CRA.

Now that the cash receipts option is closed the following options are still available to you:

  • Payment at your bank if you have a remittance slip.
  • Payment online as long as you have your account information. And your bank offers that option.
  • Payment online directly with CRA if you have your account information.
  • Mailing payment in as long as you have a remittance slip or provide your account information in a cover letter.

Although we will miss this service there are still many ways to make payment to CRA. The important thing is to watch closely what goes through your accounts and carefully review any correspondence from CRA so that you can inform us promptly of any concerns.
